Mr. J. B. Valdes, the former proprietor, died a few years ago in Cuba (his native land), after a long residence in Jamaica. He was a born artist, and brought to bear in his work that rare taste, skill and ability that made him extremely popular with the public and highly esteemed by the profession. He excelled in portrait-work, and was the recipient of several diplomas awarded him in expositions. The business is now carried on by his eldest son, a bright, genial youth of nineteen, who has inherited his father's love and enthusiasm for photography.

J. B. Valdes went to the Lopez home to take this photo of the family in their 1914 Model T Tourer.

1940s onwards
From the early 1940s onwards there are no references to J. B. Valdes as photographer, but there are mentions of his activities in agriculture, I have, so far, found no indication of the reasons for his move away from photography. The death certificate, and press reference to the death, of J. B. Valdes seem to confirm that this was J. B. Valdes, jnr., well-known photographer in succession to his father, though that seems to have been forgotten in 1970.
