Photography in 19th century Jamaica could provide material for a whole website for itself. I have been interested in the history of photography and related topics for a long time, and I will try to make good use of what I know of these matters on these pages.
An indication of the impact of photography may perhaps be seen in these three advertisements for 'photographic galleries' in Kingston, which appeared on one page of the Gleaner on October 23, 1865, in the immediate aftermath of the Morant Bay 'Rebellion' which had started on October 11. It is notable that the Duperleys were already selling portraits of men killed in St Thomas.
